Let me introduce you to an awesome human being, Steve VanDenDriessche!

Steve reached out to me for some help with knee pain that had been de-railing his training plans on and off for a few months. It was actually his wife, April, who found Iron Rx Physical Therapy online and convinced Steve he needed to reach out and get some help before it was too late to even consider the run he wanted to complete. The clock was ticking and his knee pain was wasting his valuable training time.

When Steve first came in, he was barely able to complete 1 mile without knee pain. This was a far cry from his goal which was to run the Rim-to-Rim-to-Rim trail or R2R2R for short. If you don't know what that means, don't worry, I didn't either at the time.  Steve explained to me that it meant that he would run down into the Grand Canyon, across the bottom, up the other side, and then turn around and do it all over again!!

Here's what the trail looked like:

With a goal like that in mind, barely being able to run 1 mile before his knee pain kicked in just wasn't going to cut it!

Steve completed the initial plan of care in about a month and a half while methodically increasing his mileage. During this time, we found the root cause of his knee pain, came up with a plan to fix it, and then worked on getting him back on track 100% with his training.

After finishing with his initial package of visits, Steve continued working with me on a monthly basis to make sure his plan didn't get derailed again. During this time, we worked on some strength training specific to his goals as a runner, recovery methods, dry needling, and soft tissue work just to name a few things.

Here are a few photo examples of what some of the work in his sessions entailed:
Last month, after rehabbing, working hard, and training for the bigger part of a year. Steve was able to complete the run and meet his "good" goal of doing it in about 18hrs. The best part is that he did it without any knee pain or other pain/injury popping up (aside from some nice blisters and sore muscles lol)!!

Amazing work Steve!!

Make sure you check out the before and after picture below and let me know how the heck someone looks better after all that running than they did beforehand. He may be dirtier, but he looks much more alive and at-ease. I mean, who wouldn't be more at-ease knowing that goal/feat had been conquered?
