The human body is very adaptable and that can be a good thing, but it can also a bad thing.
It's a good thing because we can consciously modify behaviors, training, diet, etc. and essentially force our body to change and adapt to those modifications. For example, you can progressively overload a muscle and it will get bigger and stronger or you can eat in a caloric deficit and lose weight. On the flip side, it will also adapt to things that you aren't consciously doing as well. For example, you can spend all day looking down at your phone and your spine and neck will become more curved or you can sit all day at work and your hip flexors or hamstrings will become tight. Luckily, those more negative changes in the second examples can be corrected, but it takes time and a lot of effort. If you want to change something about your body, let's say, improve your hip mobility so you can squat better. Well, in order to do that, you will need to incorporate mobilizations, exercises, or behaviors frequently enough that your body will adapt the tissues you're working on creating more mobility. If you haven't been doing anything to maintain your hip mobility and have slowly been losing it over the course of 10-20 years you're not going to gain it back overnight. In fact, it's going to take much longer and be much more challenging to gain back than it would have been to maintain the mobility you once had which would have taken minimal work. So, what do you need to do? Well, If you're happy with where you're at from a mobility or flexibility standpoint now then now is the time to incorporate some maintenance mobility or flexibility work so that you don't lose what you have. Or, if you have limitations or areas you know you need to improve then now is the time to start working on mobility or stretching so that you can create the changes you want. I don't know if you noticed, but either way, now is the time to work on incorporating mobility or flexibility into your regimen. It's much easier to maintain the mobility and flexibility you have than it is to re-gain the mobility or flexibility that you've lost, but fear not because you can re-gain it it may just take more diligent work.
