If you're in the gym working out, running, practicing, or doing some sort of other sport or fitness-related activity the chances are that you aren't just doing it for the heck of it.
I bet you're doing it because you love it, but because you love it, I also bet you're you want to get better at it and probably have a certain goal you want to meet. If that's you and you aren't tracking what you're doing day-in-day-out in some way or another then I guarantee you aren't making as much progress as you could be. I'm not here to shame you for not tracking your workouts because trust me, there have been numerous times where I haven't taken the time to track what I did for months at a time. I just want to gently remind you of the importance of tracking your training. The human body is so adaptable, its absolutely amazing, but it is also very lazy and happy not spending energy to change. In order to make your body change, whether that may be to attain a physique goal or you want to get better at a certain skill in your sport, you need to give your body no other choice, but to make that change. One of the best ways to do this is properly progressing the training stimulus. For example, if your goal is to get stronger on the bench press you need to progressively overload those muscles so that the body adapts and builds them meaning you get stronger. In order to do this, you need to know what you did the last training session so you can progress it. If you're not tracking your sessions then you most likely have no idea what you did last time unless you have a mind like a steel trap in which case, good for you, but you should still track what you're doing. However, if you tracked your training, you know exactly what you did and maybe even jotted some notes to yourself on how certain exercises felt that day too. Then, you just slowly progress for the next session by adding weight, reps, or modifying any of a multitude of other variables. It doesn't matter if you use a fancy app on your phone or go old school with a pencil and paper, but do yourself a favor and start tracking your training sessions whether its for performance enhancement or rehab. You'll be amazed at the difference it can make.
